Dr. Doug Klein
Dr. Doug Klein is a practicing family physician and an Associate Professor with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. He is also Director of the Doctor Patient Relationship Program, which focuses on communication skills of resident physicians and physicians in practice.
A recognized expert on lifestyle intervention in primary care, especially patient behaviour change including the Theory of Planned Behaviour, Dr. Klein has significant experience in primary care research. He has held several positions on provincial and national committees related to clinical practice in primary care, including the Alberta Pediatric Obesity Working Group, Physician Performance Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and the Research and Education Foundation for the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Through his ongoing work with Primary Care Networks in Alberta, he has forged strong connections to other primary care physicians.
In addition, Dr. Klein has been invited to give presentations on diet and exercise across Canada and internationally, including a keynote address on lifestyle modification at the Alberta College of Family Physicians Annual Meeting in February 2013. He currently has several ongoing research and health promotion projects based in primary care in Alberta.
Since 2011, Dr. Klein has lead the CHANGE Alberta research team, working closely with other family doctors in Edmonton, Toronto and Quebec City to successfully implement CHANGE Program in primary care settings. He is currently leading the initiative to expand implementation of the CHANGE Program in family medicine clinics across Canada.
