Multidisciplinary Healthcare teams and PCNs in BC

In British Columbia (BC), Primary care delivery has been entrusted to a collaborative collection of community participants called primary Care Networks (PCNs) which are funded by the Ministry of Health. Leaders in rural northwest BC decided to fund the CHANGE Program through PCNs which means all eligible patients have equitable access to the multidisciplinary health care team of CHANGE, consisting of allied health professionals such as Kinesiologists and Dietitians without having to pay for the services privately.

Through the advocacy of PCNs, Kinesiologists have become certified members of the healthcare team.

CHANGE is a huge step forward in the equitable delivery of primary healthcare as pertains to enacting UNDRIP principles. It also enshrines the principle of funding and delivery of proactive rather than reactive healthcare. It is fiscally responsible and positively addresses quality of life for individuals and communities alike to offer this unique program at a time when spending in healthcare otherwise continues to rise.
