CHANGE Program improves physical activity levels in Halton-Peel region!

With the help of funding from Ontario Trillium Foundation, MetSC and participating family health teams have been making improvements to the physical activity levels of residents in the Halton-Peel region.

Over 200 participants that have been enrolled in the CHANGE Program in the Halton-Peel region since spring 2018. Moderate and high physical activity levels have improved significantly, while those with low physical activity levels have decreased over the duration of the program. A significant improvement is also being seen in the quantity of vigorous, moderate and total physical activity including walking.

Feedback has been extremely positive from the Brampton participants:

“When we started, I was not able to even reach my feet to do up my shoes, now something as simple as bending over to put on my shoes is possible."

“I’ve noticed an improvement in my stamina, I no longer get out of breath just climbing my stairs at home.”

“I like the personalized approach of the team as when you go to a gym it is always about what financial gains can be accomplished. This team really worked together and made me feel whole and realize that this is really for my good benefit”.

"Just prior to joining the CHANGE program I had mastered a 30-minute walk 5-6 days a week and was ready to go to the next step but had no idea what the next step should be. With the help of the kinesiologist and her expertise in identifying my needs. I have been able to mover forwards and when I was experiencing a problem being able to contact the kinesiologist so that the program could be adjusted until I am more able to reach the goal. Overall, I have increased energy levels, have a more positive attitude."
